We've Doubled In Size

No, we haven't responded to one of those dodgy emails we all get thousands of - well some of us might have, but that's a different story!

We were previously a "semi-detached" modern industrial unit of 8,000 square feet. We've now taken next door, doubling us up to 16,000 square feet. The directors are shaking in their boots at the expansion, but everyone else in the team is over the moon!

Our plans are a little bit secret at this stage, but suffice to say we'll be expanding our capacity and capability in the coming months; watch this space...

Our latest Charity Ball was the Moulin Rouge theme, again for the Forget-me-not Trust. We once again cut the stage decorations in wood & MDF, the table centres were in powder-coated metal, and we even made the windmill turn all night!

Welcome to our revised web site! We've just got this up and running so please have a good look at it and tell us what you think. We've tested it but there may be some teething problems, or you might think it's the best site you've ever seen. Whatever your thoughts, please use the form on the contact page and let us know.

The new site includes a lot more information about us and about lasers in general. We hope it's useful.

Sept 2006 Our regular clients may be aware of the trials and tribulations of Barry, one of our directors. Barry, a sensible(?) 40 year old, decided, while on holiday in Portugal, to revisit his youth by executing a perfect swallow dive from the local pier. Unfortunately he hit the water like a returning satellite that has suffered a catastrophic parachute failure during re-entry, resulting in the complete rearrangement of the bones in his right shoulder and arm. His holiday was cut short as he returned to the UK for urgent medical attention.

We're pleased to report Barry is now back in action, albeit in a limited sense as his arm is strapped firmly to his body, and will be for some time to come. However, it's really funny watching him trying to answer the phone, use his mouse, and type all at the same time, so we don't mind!

Barry is now officially known as the director who tries to cash cheques his body can't afford!

Cutting Technologies has, since its formation, supported the Forget-me-not Trust, a Yorkshire charity set up to raise the finance to build a children's respite centre & hospice. One of the ways we support the trust is to use our creative side to design and cut props for the annual ball. The latest theme was the "Big Apple" and we designed and cut table centres and stage furniture based on the New York skyline. We had a great time coming up with the ideas, and an even better time at the ball itself!

We've just installed a Nitrogen Generator. The £110,000 investment will allow us to improve our efficiency when cutting stainless steel. It should also help us to maintain our prices in spite of the huge energy and gas cost increases hitting industry at the moment.

The generator uses compressed air passed through a special filtration system, resulting in pure nitrogen; we store the nitrogen in high pressure tanks and use it to cut stainless steel and other non-ferrous metals. The initial high capital investment is offset by the savings made on buying bottled gas, and despite the forecasted increase in energy and gas costs, should allow us to maintain our current pricing structure for nitrogen assisted gas cutting.

Cutting Technologies is one of the first sub-contract laser companies to adopt the technology. We're happy to allow other laser companies to come and see the equipment, and look at our cost justification calculations.
