Interesting Project_5 - University of Manchester
Designed to Inspire students and lecturers to great things
When Manchester University was looking for ways to inspire students using a new £24 million building it was planning to construct, it came up with the idea of a wall made from oak panels engraved with inspirational quotes from Manchester alumni, Nobel Prize winners and other key figures.
However, finding a company with the capability to engrave the large pieces of oak that the design required wasn’t as easy as anticipated. Project architects Sheppard Robson researched laser companies across the world before discovering we had the skills they needed.
It asked us to engrave the panels designed by Stephen McCabe before RW Joinery installed them in the new building’s café, computer suite and on the side of a staircase.
In one of the images you can see Manchester University President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, beside her quote
