Cutting Technologies uses CO2 laser technology to engrave plastics. The main plastic processed is acrylic as this gives excellent results and is a robust and UV stable material. We laser engrave and cut plastics for applications ranging from instrument panels through decorative components to signs, and just about everything else you can think of. There are special laminated plastics that have different layers of colour - we engrave away the front layer to show the background colour - this can be used for some amazing effects. Have a look at the examples below; we can't show every material and application - the page would be far too long, but they should give you some ideas of our laser engraving service. This is an example of laser engraved fluorescent acrylic and is a close-up of a point-of-sale display stand. Fluorescent acrylic is very popular at the moment as it looks as if it's edge-lit without the need for lighting - the customer who ordered this bought lights and then realised he didn't need them!
An example of laser cut and engraved mirror acrylic- we engrave through the mirror coating to give an excellent contrast to the mirror finish. This is an invitation and although you can't see it here, we laser cut around the platinum area but left it tagged in - this became the snap-out credit card sized invite the guest could carry easily, but the overall invitation allowed the client to get the full message across.
An example of laser engraved clear acrylic - an award for a charity golf day. We do lots of stuff like this, in fact if you were a lucky recipient of a Hidden Arts Award last year you walked away with our work! Virtually any image can be engraved, and the level of detail is such that you can really go to town on what you include. Also remember we can cut acrylic up to 20mm thick into any shape, so you can have a combination of complex cuts and engraved parts to really create a unique item.
Acrylic is available in hundreds of colours and finishes. This is a laser engraved and cut gold acrylic VIP card - we do lots of stuff like this, and we can respond very quickly for your urgent work.
This is an example of laser engraved laminate - a blue textured surface with a white back colour. Again there are hundreds of different colour combinations, and there is even a magnetic version, so think fridge magnet!
Here's an amazing use of laminate - this time white on black. This was engraved from a photograph of an original 1960's newspaper - the laser even engraved the creases and the yellowing due to age! In fact we could actually read more text on the engraved part than we could on the photograph used to produce it - strange!
