We're not sure what's happening in the UK at the moment but we've cut more Corten in the last six months than we did in the last 3 years! It must really be a trend material for this year.

For those of you who don't know Corten it's a steel that rusts quite quickly but the rusty layer then passivates so you get no further corrosion and a lovely red finish. It was originally created for bridge building - rather than have to continually paint huge bridge structures the metal is allowed to rust then stop - no painting the Forth Bridge for the rest of your life!

Cor-ten became really well know when Anthony Gormley used it to create the Angel of the North and now it's known as much for its aesthetic properties as its engineering uses.
