We laser cut plywood every week and one of the most asked questions is what will the edge look like. We try to explain that as ply is an organic material there will always be carbon on the edge - a darkening and a little soot. The photo above is a typical laser cut edge on ply at around 12mm thick and you can see some discolouration. This will become more pronounced as the ply gets thicker. Sometimes clients actually specify as dark an edge as possible and we can de-focus the laser slightly to increase the burning effect.
